Portraits at the Lancaster Polo Club | Dog Days of Summer 2025
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I was asked to be the event photographer for Lancaster Polo Club’s Dog Days of Summer event this past Sunday at Forney Field. I had never attended a polo match before. As an equestrian myself, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to experience polo for the first time while also doing another of my favorite activities: event photography.
One of the perks of being the photographer for the match is that you can bring your family to attend while working. So, with Marc out of town, my dad came with the littles, Finn and Rita, to keep an eye on them for me, along with my oldest, Andrew, and his girlfriend, Bella, and her parents. It was the perfect thing to do on a Sunday in Lancaster! Rita especially enjoyed using her saved money to shop the vendors by herself. She went home with many special treats for our dog, Char!
We experienced the Kimberton Hunt Club’s parade of foxhounds, a thrilling polo match between Lancaster’s team and the Marlan Farm Divas, the halftime divot stop champagne toast, and many local vendors, including the Lancaster SPCA with three adorable pups up for adoption, and…myself photographing mini sessions in between all the action. I. Was. Tired.
I think I ended up with about 500 photos I couldn’t part with at the end of the day. Below is a little sample of them to show you what a day at polo is like. I highly encourage you to attend a match. It’s so much fun! Pack a lunch or visit a food truck, BYOB, park along the field, and tailgate the game!
I will certainly be back for another match soon. Will I see you there?
Thanks again to the Lancaster Polo Club for the invitation to be the event photographer for this very special match benefiting the Lancaster SPCA with a supply drive—a cause close to my heart. My pop-up portrait events have helped local pet causes many times, so this, along with my equestrian background, was such an excellent fit for me. Taking photos of the dogs from the shelter was also very rewarding, I’m thinking about offering to do that for them regularly. If it helps a dog in need, I’m in.
Cheers to another fun work experience under my belt!
Hugs,
Megan
