A Spring Wizard Ranch Family Photo Shoot | The Lever Family | May 2, 2026
Often, not knowing the kids personally before a portrait session gives me an advantage when directing them. Since they don’t know me and I take control right away, they mostly do what I ask. That was the case with Audrey and Jordan. But Carter is a regular at my house, playing with my own kids in the neighborhood. At some point, whether texting about kids playing or possibly on the sidelines of a soccer game, Stephanie asked about family sessions, mentioning they hadn’t updated their family photos since Audrey was a baby. Fast forward many months, and here is the result. I think the fact that Carter knows me as “Finn’s Mom” and not “our photographer” gave him the confidence to be extra silly…and he was! Amidst all the silly faces and running around, we captured plenty of photos of him looking super handsome and following directions like he normally does.
Since I started working on the images on Saturday evening, Finn and Rita have kept peeking over my shoulder, making little “I know them!” sounds. It’s been fun to blend home and work on this project. It was fun to show you my “work personality” instead of the mom-mode—walking the dog, waiting at the bus stop, trick-or-treating, always-a-kid-at-my-side personality. And it was so nice to see you all dressed up for your shoot. The kids were amazing, and I’m really glad we made it happen. And don’t worry, Adam, I won’t make you hug me every day. Promise.
