A Summer, Sunny, Rainy, Rainbow-y, Magical, Longwood Gardens Engagement Session | Mary Katherine + Michael | August 14,2022

The fist drop of rain hit my shoulder…I ignored it and kept shooting. Only 30 minutes ago there was a ZERO% chance of rain for this evening. Mary Katherine and Michael were killing it for their summer Longwood Gardens engagement session. When the second drop hit my forehead, I thought back to my greeting when they arrived: a huge hug followed by, “You got the perfect weather today! You’re SO lucky!!!”

I must have jinxed us.

Mike noticed it next and we ducked inside the gorgeous Peirce du Pont House just before the downpour began. It can be funny how the universe keeps its checks and balances. I had started their session 30 minutes early to account for all the walking at Longwood. It just so happens, we were tucked away, chatting and getting to know each other better during the rain that came out of nowhere, for about that same amount of time.

Knowing the sunset was getting close, we threw caution to the wind and took off for the fountains; Mary holding a shirt over her loosely bundled hair.

Oh, how they danced and kissed without a care in those final bits of rain and sunlight. Even as the sun broke through the clouds, triumphant and warm, rain fell soft and cool as the fountains danced and sparkled in the setting sun before it tucked in for the night —Magic.

The most magical part: Rain brings rainbows. Scroll to the end to see!

These two lovebirds will be married at The Inn at Barley Sheaf Farm in May, 2023 only a few days after Michael graduates from medical school! I cannot wait to meet everyone (and see a few faces I know too!).

MK and Mike, what a whirlwind of exhilaration your shoot was! Thank you for your flexibility and understanding that mother nature does what she does. You two are amazing and you really did totally slay your engagement shoot. I can’t wait to see you and photograph you again in the spring on your wedding day!!! I hope you love this little sample of photos from your sunny, rainy, rainbow-y engagement shoot. And, because I know how hard it is to wait, there will be a surprise in your inbox this evening, so don’t forget to check. I’ll try to get it over to you before all of our bedtimes though!
