In all my years as a wedding photographer, I had never seen a couple list “First Look with Dad” as their number one most important part of their wedding day until this one. Now, I know why. After the tear-filled moment had passed, Jackie said while dabbing tears from her cheeks, “Oh yeah. We’re all criers!” Apparently, Ian was not. Laughter and sniffles swirled through the beautiful room of the Airbnb the couple had rented to get ready in together. Though he may not wear his emotions on his sleeve, Ian’s easygoing personality fits right in with the Deitz vibe.

Also a first for me: Jackie and Ian opted for a first look before their Catholic ceremony. Being together, having those intimate moments before heading to the church, quelled any lingering nerves. It was fun to see them walk into the church to be married hand in hand. Jackie’s dad, John, still walked her down the aisle, of course—tears streaming down their cheeks in true Deitz style, her cathedral-length veil trailed behind them.

After receiving the sacrament of marriage from Father Matthew, everyone headed to the Marshalton Inn at Four Dogs Tavern in West Chester to celebrate the couple’s union. Surrounded by the magic of the holiday season, they ate, drank, and toasted Jackie and Ian’s marriage. Halfway through Mary K’s toast, she looked down at Ian and exclaimed, “Ian, are you crying?!” He was. Apparently, joining families with the Deitzs has that effect. Jackie and Ian, what a whirlwind! One minute, we’re taking your engagement photos at Valley Forge National Park, the next, you're selling your house, getting married, and taking it all in stride. I’m so excited for the future that lies before you. Together, nothing can stop you. Thank you for allowing me to capture your best day ever. As you said to your mom while getting ready, Jackie, these are the photos you will have forever. I love that you truly understand the importance.
