What to do if You CRY After Your Makeup Artist Leaves

Katie + Michael Wedding Highlights-99.jpg

I consulted with my dear friend Andrea of Shades of Blush Studio and this is what she has to say about tears and makeup:

1. Deep breaths in through the nose and try to hold it back.

But if the tears are rolling...

2. Try to catch them at the corner of your eye so they don’t run down your cheek.

3. Gently dab your cheek if a tear falls.

4. Avoid pressing down on your bottom lashes if you have mascara on.

If you’re a BIG crier...

5. Have a beauty blender on hand (it’s like a sponge for applying liquid foundation) and apply a cream concealer to the area that was affected. You can set with a blot sheet. Get some blot sheets ahead of time and ask your makeup artist how to do this while she is applying your foundation.

6. Lastly, if you are really worried about it, some makeup artists offer extended services like leaving some touch up foundation/concealer for you or even staying until after your first look or after portraits are completed for the day to keep your makeup looking fresh. Some even will change your whole look for your reception too.

Something to think about!

***The most important takeaway from Andrea: DAB. Do not Wipe!***

All-in-all, what I’m going to tell you is: most people cry at some point on their wedding day. It’s an emotional day and IT’S OKAY! Even if you do accidentally wipe and there is no concealer or time for it....it’s ok and you probably won’t notice in the pictures. All professional wedding makeup artists are going to use waterproof products and the best products available. So, it won’t be the same as crying in your everyday makeup.

My takeaway: enjoy your day and feel the feelings....even if you cry.

Share with a friend who’s a crier!

XO - Megan
